Dear Parents and Guardians:
RE: WASTE FREE LUNCH
In our province, we generate more than 400,000 tonnes of waste per year -that’s 2.2 kilograms per person, per
day! We can avoid much of this waste by reducing, reusing, and recycling!
Every Friday in December, the John McGivney School Authority will be participating in school-wide Waste Free
Lunch Days. During this time, staff and students are asked to bring a lunch that contains no waste. Any lunches
that contain waste will be packed back into children’s lunch bags to be disposed of at home.
A waste-free lunch may include:
● Reusable lunch bag/box
● Reusable sandwich container
● Reusable drink container
● Reusable containers (for veggies, yogurt, snacks)
● Reusable cutlery
Packing a waste-free lunch for your child not only helps cut down on the amount of waste we generate, it also helps
children learn about the importance of making the 3Rs a part of their daily routine.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
The John McGivney School EcoSchools Committee
