Please see below correspondence from the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU):
Note that there has not been an exposure at the John McGivney School and if there was an exposure, parents would be contacted with that information.
The WECHU is monitoring all cases of measles in our community and routinely updating a list of potential measles exposure locations in Windsor and Essex county. View our Measles page for more information about risk, symptoms, and more. Those who may have been exposed to the infection, particularly those who are unvaccinated, should monitor for symptoms for 7 to 21 days after exposure. Symptoms can include a fever, runny nose, cough, drowsiness, irritability, and red eyes. A red rash appears on the face 3 to 7 days after the start of the above symptoms. The rash may start from the face and progress down the body. If you develop these symptoms, call a health care provider or walk-in clinic on the phone BEFORE visiting the office. This gives the office time to prepare for your arrival, so the infection isn’t passed on to others at the office. If you require further information, please contact the WECHU at 519-258-2146 ext. 1420.
Students that are fully vaccinated for measles and non-symptomatic are not required to isolate or remain home from school, whether they believe that they have been exposed or not unless directed by the WECHU. If there are concerns that families or staff have related to their health status, the health status of anyone in the household, or are concerned about a measles exposure and their risk (including vaccination status or immunity) should be encouraged to contact their Health Care Provider directly for guidance.
If you have any questions or concerns, contact the School Office at 519.977.2200.
