PA Day

October 17, 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This is a reminder that students will not be attending school on Friday, October 17th as it is a Ministry approved Professional Development Day for school staff.

In compliance with the Better School and Students Outcome Act, school boards are required to post details about the specific activities staff will be participating in on Professional Activity Days.

The following is an outline of the professional development in which our staff will be participating:

Topic 1: From 9:10 am to 2:00 pm Supporting Self-Regulation

Presenter(s)/Facilitator(s): Dr. Lisa Cranston

Description:  In the morning and part of the afternoon after lunch, teachers and support staff will participate in a workshop facilitated by Dr. Cranston, a Self-Regulation Facilitator and presenter with the MEHRIT Centre. She is a frequent contributor to their online publications. The focus of the presentation will be how the concepts and strategies of Shanker Self-Regulation can be used by education professionals to support children with multiple exceptionalities. The following topics will be covered in the session:

  • Review of Self-regulation (building on last year’s presentation)
  • Applying Self-regulation – working in classroom teams
  • Reflection on what is working
  • Setting a SMART goal
  • How can we share successes and how can we ask for help?

Topic 2: From 2:10 pm to 3:45 pm – Lifting and Positioning of Students

Presenter(s)/Facilitator(s): John McGivney Children’s Centre therapists

Description: A series of mandatory presentations will be provided to our staff on lifting and positioning of students by JMCC therapy teams.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school office at 519-977-2200.
